Lake many thoughtful residences that grace Lake Washington, this home enjoys spectacular views and a varied landscape. Working to nestle the Cape Cod inspired architecture into that landscape was one of the chief goals of this multi-faceted project.
“Assembling a ‘family of materials’ that would work together in a cohesively to support the sense of place, was critical to the success of the final result.” Rhodes has said of the project. Ultimately, he deployed both reclaimed stone as well as newly quarried material gathered around the globe to support that vision.
Of the many residence fireplaces, Rhodes singles out the radius outdoor fireplace of the logia and the pool cabana fireplace surround as his favorites. The pedestal set pool deck paving constructed of 500 year old re-claimed granite road “planks” is another particular project highlight. In a lecture last year, Rhodes reported that, “working with Richard Hagg on how the stone could engage the landscape on this project was a great gift that informed my practice in the decades that followed.”
